Types of IELTS Scores
There are different types of IELTS, and here they are:
- Academic Module
- General Training Module
1. Academic Module
This module is for those who want to study in tertiary universities and other high tertiary institutions to acquire professional degrees such as medical doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and others.
2. General Training Module:
This module is for those who want to embark on a non-academic program to gain more work experience.
Structure of the IELTS Score Exam
The total time duration for the IELTS exam is 2 hours and 45 minutes. It is important to note that reading, listening, and writing are done in one sitting. The speaking test can be done on the same day or within seven days. The International English Language Testing System is divided into four parts:
- Listening part: 30 minutes
- Reading part: 60 minutes
- Writing part: 60 minutes
- Speaking part: 11–14 minutes
1. Listening Part:
This comprises four sections (Section one–Section four). Sections one and two are all about everyday and social situations, while sections three and four are all about training and educational situations.
- For section one, it has to do with a conversation between two speakers.
- For section two, it involves only one person making a speech.
- For section three, it involves a conversation that is going on between two main speakers.
- Section 4: It involves only an individual making a speech about a particular academic subject.
All the sections in this part begin with a short intro before the actual is taken.
2. Reading Part:
This comprises three sections and a total number of texts of approximately 2,150–2,750 words. This part comes with various types of questions, such as labeling diagrams, multiple-choice questions, identifying information, and others. The test takers should be conscious of their spelling and grammar in order not to lose some marks.
3. Writing Part:
This has two working tasks that should be done. In task 1, a test taker should be able to write at least 150 words within 20 minutes. In task two, a test taker must write at least 250 words within 40 minutes. Unfortunately, there is a penalty to this, and this occurs when the test taker provides a short answer or what they have written is not related to the topic. There should be no abbreviation when writing the answer.
4. Speaking Part:
This is a person-to-person interview between an examiner and the test taker. This part comes in three sections (section one–section three).
- Section One:
This is the introductory and interview segments. The examiner might decide to ask the test taker some personal questions, such as about their home, studies, family, interests, and others. This is done within 4-5 minutes.
- Section Two:
The examiner gives the test-taker a task card about a specific topic. The test taker has a minute to prepare for this topic, and it is done within 3–4 minutes.
- Section Three:
This is the discussion segment, and it involves the examiner and test taker discussing the topic that they have discussed in Section 2.
Required Documents for the IELTS Score
The following is a list of documents for the IELTS score:
- Present a valid passport.
- 2 recent identical passport-sized photographs of yourself:
- Photographs are needed in an emergency. For instance, the one uploaded during registration is not clear enough. This is the reason it is good to carry an additional passport to the examination hall.
- Printing out a confirmation message from the Canada Council to the email used for the registration of the IELTS score The printout will be stamped before entering the examination hall to write the first part of the exam.
- It is advised to go along with some stationery items, such as a pen, eraser, sharpener, and pencil.
- Apart from the above-mentioned items, nothing else needs to be taken to the examination center.
IELTS Score Registration
This exam registration comes in two different ways: online and in person. These are the steps to follow for any method that is going to be used, and here they are:
- Step 1: Filling out an application
- Step 2: Payment of the examination fee
- Step 3: Send an application form and proof of payment to payment@ielts.ng.
There is no way an incomplete registration will be answered. Therefore, it is expected of anyone to fill out the incomplete form within 48 hours. Anyone who wants to fill out the form online can do it through their website.
